Ruby Earl McKinnon, a longtime resident of the Sulphur Bluff community passed away at Carriage House Manor in Sulphur Springs, Texas, on October 13, 2020. She was born near Winnsboro, Texas, on December 24, 1918, to Roy and Ethel McKinnon, and moved with her family to the Sulphur Bluff community in 1937. She moved to Dallas in the 1940’s where she worked for an insurance company until returning to Sulphur Bluff in the latter part of that decade to care for her elderly parents, and remained there the rest of her life. Additionally, she was employed as a farm laborer, as a cafeteria worker at Sulphur Bluff ISD, and as a garment worker at Lee manufacturing plant in Sulphur Springs until her retirement. Ruby was a staunch Christian, was a founding member of the Sulphur Bluff Assembly of God Church, and remained committed to God and her church throughout her life. She never married, but she was always the “big sister” to her siblings, and doted on her nieces and nephews, who were all special to her, as she was to them.

Ruby is survived by her nieces, Karen Oliver of Red Oak, Texas; Kelly Oliver and Kimberly Hunter, both of Richardson, Texas; nephew Kevin Chester of Waxahachie, Texas, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Sara Lanell Miller, Billie Dean Chester and Bobbie May; brothers, Durward “Dub” McKinnon, Frank “Wad” McKinnon and Larry Joe McKinnon; nephew Philip Garner and very special brother-in-law Loyd D. “Red” Chester.
