Funeral services for Rev. Luther Shepard, age 71, of Sulphur Springs have been set for Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 11:00AM at Mitchell Chapel Church of God in Christ with Rev. D. K. Young officiating. Burial will follow in East Caney Cemetery with Deacon Hunter, Quon Clayton, Melvin Clayton, Curtis Sanders, Delvon Cromwell, Lewis Harrison, and Shaun Shepard serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Dr. Steve Howard, Charles Nash, Cedric Richardson, III, Cristian Jackson, Cameron Kahn, Brandon Carter, Rev. Danny McDaniel, Rev. Frank Castrellon Sr., D'Corian Young, Pastor James Ray Taylor, Sr., and all ministers and pastors. A visitation will be held Friday evening, August 6, 2010 at Tapp Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Luther Lacey Shepard was born September 28, 1938 the son of Charlie and Lucille McKinney Shepard. He married Molly M. Clayton in Sulphur Springs on July 5, 1975. She survives. Mr. Shepard was a retired minister and pastor and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and Biblical Theological Seminary in Long Beach. He served his country as a U. S. Marine in the Vietnam War. He passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2010 in Dallas.

Survivors include daughters, Brenda Kay Beard, Lois Stine Dupree, Jacquline Annette Shepard, all of Bolivar, Tennessee, Cassandra Yvonne Payne, Charlena Yar'vette Shepard-Cromwell, Kimberly Yvette Shepard, all of Los Angeles; godchildren, Timmy, Tommy, Keenean, and Marvin; three brothers, four sisters, twenty grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and three brothers.
