Delverne Johnson

Funeral services for Delverne Johnson, age 83, formerly of Hopkins County, have been scheduled for 3:00pm Monday, April 18, 2011 at the Tapp Funeral Home Chapel with Tommie Shrode and Pat Morris officiating. Interment will follow at Nelta Cemetery with Mike Morris, Rafe Shrode, Allen Shrode, Rick Kennedy, James Kennedy, George Johnson, Tim Shrode, and Lance Hayes serving as pallbearers. Tommie Shrode will serve as honorary pallbearer. Visitation will be held Monday April 18, 2011 from 10:00am to 2:00pm at Tapp Funeral Home.


Joy Delverne Shrode was born on February 29, 1928, in Hopkins County, the daughter of Walter Carl and Della Rebecca Troboy Shrode. She married Allen Merritt Johnson who preceded her in death in December of 1977. She was a home insurance claims adjuster and was of the Church of Christ faith. Mrs. Johnson passed away Thursday, April 14, 2011 at her residence in Tennessee.


Survivors include daughter, Jean Carol Hayes, of Fairview, TN; sisters, Ernestine Kennedy, of Dennison, TX, Clara Shaimes, of Buena Park, CA; brother, Tommie Shrode, of College Station; grandchildren, Lance Hayes, Joy Gillette, Tori Daugherty, Lori Hayes; six great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by one brother, Pete Shrode and one sister, Lillian Morris.
