Betty Jean Alcorn Caudle, of Yantis, Texas, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Quitman Wellness and Rehabilitation in Quitman, Texas.
Betty was born on December 19, 1931, in Greenville, Texas, to Venus Thurman and Mable (Glenn) Alcorn. She married Lowe E. “Tommy” Caudle on June 2, 1949, in Yantis, Texas. He predeceased her on December 19, 1991.
Betty grew up surrounded by her family, faith and music. Once Betty graduated from Yantis High School in 1949, she and Tommy got married, and they moved to Commerce, Texas. Betty taught piano lessons while Tommy ran the local piano store. She later started college and received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1963, and her Master of Education in 1968, from East Texas State University. She served as a school counselor for many years at Greenville ISD before moving back to Yantis ISD, where she retired.
She stayed busy playing the piano for various groups and churches. Her favorite colors were pink and purple, she loved to travel, and she never missed a beauty shop appointment with Roxie!
Betty is survived by her brother, Willie Frank Alcorn of Georgia; many nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family, friends, and community members who will miss her dearly.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Venus Thurman and Mable (Glenn) Alcorn; husband, Lowe E. “Tommy” Caudle; brothers, W.D. Alcorn, Thurman Alcorn, Gilbert Alcorn, Jimmy Alcorn, Lanie Alcorn; nephews, James Alcorn and Ronald Alcorn; nieces, Dona Alcorn Richardson and Sharon Alcorn Holder.
Arrangements are under the direction of Tapp Funeral Home.
